12/12/12
I suppose this is supposed to be relevant for something. but it's felt like any other day. interestingly enough, it's the last consecutive day we'll ever see in our lifetime.
again, any other day.
work has been tiring lately. mostly due to the fact that we've got people coming and going doing inspections and year end stuff.
I guess I should have mentioned prior that I'm actually buying a pet store. as in owning one. crazy right?
my good friend Chris, whom I have known for years and years and worked for before was kind enough to get me this job with the idea that I would gain knowledge of the store and we'd go together and buy one. (it's a franchised high end pet food store called Global Pet Foods, in case anyone is interested in checking it out)
so that's the plan. any idea how much legal bullshit you have to go through to buy a store? here's a hint. it's A LOT.
and if anyone has ever worked retail at christmas, they know how annoying and hectic it can be. pet stores are no different.
the bonus part is people bring in their puppies all the time (and sometimes kitties too!) so the majority of my day is spent hugging dogs. can't go wrong with that.
can't say that I ever really dreamed of owning a pet store. but me and Chris have both had the offhand idea of doing it for years now.
you'd also never think that there are crazy people who own animals. but let me tell you, it's almost ALL crazy people who own animals.
just the other day, a regular customer came in and was browsing around. she's a bit nutty and I've dealt with her on a number of occasions. extremely well spoken, with a vocabulary that puts me to shame, but generally nutty. anyways, she was looking at our leather dog collars and starts trying them on. curiously I asked her if she had the same size neck as her dog, and offered her to bring the dog in to try the collar on. but she simply replied, no. this is for me. and bought a pink leather studded collar with tiny little hearts on it.
it's best to laugh at those situations. there isn't much else you can do.
really though, even when days (like today) where I'm worn out and sick and tired and just want to stay in bed all day, it's still probably the happiest a job has ever made me.
plus, where I'm living, we have 8 animals. so the discount sure comes in handy.
